Chris Coons is a United States Senator from the state of Delaware, elected in 2010 and now serving on the Foreign Relations, Judiciary, Energy & Natural Resources, and Budget committees. In addition to building a strong legislative record supporting American jobs, innovation, clean energy, and education, Senator Coons has innovated the use of digital platforms in the Senate, leveraging an award-winning website, robust social media profiles,innovative web videos, and an array of experimental digital tactics to engage with his constituents. In one, Senator Coons recruited a dozen of his colleagues andproduced a stirring and widely acclaimed video for the It Gets Better project to urge gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth to resist bullying.
Chris’ election to the Senate capped a decade of successful service in New Castle County government, including four years as New Castle County Council President and six years as New Castle County Executive. He’d previously worked as an attorney for Delaware-based W.L. Gore & Associates, one of the 200 largest privately held companies in the United States. Chris is a graduate of Amherst College with a B.A. in Chemistry and Political Science, and earned his law degree from Yale Law School and a Master’s in Ethics from Yale Divinity School.
